Crystal Palace Gardens

The ongoing regeneration of Crystal Palace Gardens is a significant effort to revitalize one of London’s most cherished public spaces. In May 2025, Maylim appointed Evans by Shay Murtagh to provide specialist manufacturing services for this prestigious scheme. The project required the delivery of substantial architectural elements, specifically focusing on the creation of high-quality retaining walls and seating units that respect the park’s Victorian heritage.

Our engineering team was responsible for the design and production of approximately 100 bespoke precast units. The primary application of these units was to construct the entrance retaining walls for the lower Italian terrace ramp. Additionally, we manufactured precast concrete (PCC) seating walls for the new dinosaur-themed children's playground. To ensure visual continuity with the existing landscape, every unit was cast using a limestone architectural mix and given a premium etched finish. This specific texture offers both the rugged durability required for public infrastructure and the refined aesthetic demanded by the site’s historical context.

Manufacturing took place throughout Q3 and Q4 of 2025, with all units delivered to the site on schedule. This project required close collaboration between our technical design team, the main contractor Maylim Limited, and landscape architects HTA Design LLP. The works are commissioned by the London Borough of Bromley, with the wider site improvements expected to reach full completion by summer 2026.

Production was carried out during Q3 and Q4 of 2025, with all components delivered to the site to meet the contractor’s schedule. The installation of these retaining walls and landscaping features is a critical step towards the full site completion, which the London Borough of Bromley expects by summer 2026. This seamless delivery relies on our internal quality assurance processes, ensuring every piece fits the complex site geometry perfectly.

Collaboration was key throughout the process, working alongside Main Contractor Maylim Limited and Landscape Architects HTA Design LLP. Our in-house design capabilities allowed us to translate their vision into robust concrete reality. As Evans continues to deliver challenging projects across the UK, our involvement at Crystal Palace demonstrates how modern precast methods can effectively support heritage restoration.
