Shrewsbury Riverside is a major regeneration project led by Shropshire Council, transforming the area between the Darwin Centre, Roushill and the River Severn in Shrewsbury town centre. The scheme will turn a 4-hectare brownfield site into a vibrant, sustainable destination that reconnects the town with its riverside setting, and precast concrete units have played a central role in bringing the first phase to life.
Riverside Gardens, a new public park, forms the first phase of the wider £350 million regeneration programme and is scheduled to open in Q3 2026. The park has been designed to boost footfall, support biodiversity and improve flood resilience, while creating a welcoming space for the local community to enjoy.
Following early-stage design development support alongside landscape architects Fira, Evans Concrete was appointed by main contractor Morgan Sindall Construction in October 2025 for the design, manufacture and installation of the precast concrete units across the scheme. The precast units were manufactured through the winter of 2025, with site installation beginning in February 2026. Installation has progressed in phases alongside the wider works, with the final precast concrete unit installation expected to complete in late summer 2026.
The final design included the main seating amphitheatre, access stairs, the main entrance walls with recessed lettering, copings to the feature entrance archway, and architectural cladding for the on-site lifts. In total, approximately 130 precast concrete units were manufactured and installed across these areas. The majority of the precast concrete unit range was produced in a limestone mix with an acid-etched finish, chosen to complement the surrounding riverside landscape. The exception was the copings and cladding pieces, which were manufactured in a bespoke terracotta mix specifically matched to the existing on-site brickwork, tying the new precast elements into the wider architectural context.
Works on site are now nearing completion, with Shropshire Council having confirmed a December 2026 opening date for Riverside Gardens. The precast concrete unit installation is on track to complete in late summer 2026, ahead of the wider finishing works, giving Shrewsbury a new riverside destination built to last.
