One Nine Elms, a new landmark in London’s Nine Elms district, represents a transformation of the public realm with a blend of urban sophistication and welcoming design. Contracted by Maylim, the main contractor handling landscaping for Multiplex, Evans by Shay Murtagh was selected to produce bespoke architectural precast concrete (PCC) elements essential to this urban vision. Under LDA Design’s landscape architecture, the area combines hard and soft landscaping elements, including bespoke precast planters, access steps, and terrace features, which are seamlessly integrated with water features, green walls, and lighting to create an inviting atmosphere.
Evans’ role involved producing several critical elements crafted specifically for the One Nine Elms public space. The bespoke precast planters play a key role, offering structure and style to the landscaped areas, adding greenery and natural textures that elevate the space. The access steps were designed for both functionality and elegance, enhancing pedestrian movement throughout the site. Additionally, main entrance terrace features were implemented to establish a seamless transition from street to entrance, blending functionality with visual appeal, and aligning with LDA Design’s vision for a cohesive urban space.
Evans focused on delivering durability and precision in each PCC unit, utilising Shay Murtagh’s renowned standards of quality in precast solutions. Each element, from the planters to the steps, was crafted to withstand the demands of an urban environment, meeting strict aesthetic and structural requirements. Evans ensured that their approach to manufacturing aligned with the sustainable practices Shay Murtagh champions, creating high-quality, resilient structures suited for this vibrant public realm.
Working in close coordination with Maylim and LDA Design, Evans effectively managed logistics, planning each installation to meet the project’s schedule while maintaining the highest quality. With detailed logistics and planning, each element was installed efficiently, aligning with Maylim’s landscaping efforts. The completed public space showcases how Evans’ bespoke PCC solutions can complement landscaping, water features, and green walls, creating a holistic and inviting environment for the community to enjoy.
