Albert McKenzie Memorial

Evans Concrete were contracted by The Albert McKenzie VC Memorial Fund to design, manufacture and install 4 precast concrete sections which formed a plinth for the statue.

Albert McKenzie was the first London sailor to collect the Victoria Cross from King George V. He was awarded this after taking part in a mission to block German boats in the Belgian port of Bruges-Zeebrugge in 1918.

As part of Remembrance Day 2015, he has been honoured with a statue and 48-gun salute. The statue stands off Tower Bridge in Bermondsey, South London. A stone’s throw from his childhood home.

The memorial sits atop a concrete plinth made from a section of the Zeebrugge harbour wall donated by the people of Flanders.
